The $200 Chesapeake Time Machine

Marketplace Gold: the wildest real local listing we find each week. Spotted in the wild — send us yours.

This week's entry: a "vintage" console TV in Chesapeake, listed at $200, described as "works great." The photos suggest it last worked during the Clinton administration.

Let's be fair to the seller. The cabinet? Beautiful. Mid-century lines, real wood, the kind of furniture they don't make anymore because it would cost four figures. As a TV stand with a great story, $200 is almost reasonable. As a functioning television, the phrase "works great" is doing more heavy lifting than the two people it'll take to move it.

"Somebody's getting a great TV stand and a science project."

The verdict

Offer $80, gut the tube, put a fish tank in it. Or a bar. A bar is better. Send us what you'd do with it — best answer runs next week.
